'A label attributed to people born during the 1960s and 1970s. Members of Generation X are often described as cynical or disaffected, though this reputation obviously does not apply to all people born during this era. This generation has an increased understanding of technology, having grown up during the age of computers.'
I don't know if i can completely agree with this statement as my dad was born '68 and he is bloody awful with computers. He uses the term download with literally everything. 'Liam, I downloaded this website called Youtube or something like that. You can get almost every song.' Granted many of Gen X have an understanding but not an increased one, unless they went into further education studying downloading.
The way in which people advertise to them is by understanding their values and beliefs, what they prefer opposed to or similarly to other generations. Understanding experiences that Gen X may have encountered can be crucial in marketing to them. When marketing to a whole generation things such as life experiences, stage of the life cycle they are in, family traditions they have are important to know. A simple way of doing this is including songs or films from when that era was young to give them a sense of nostalgia. 118 188 include the ghostbusters parody to market their service.
A forum I found allows people in Generation X to look back at the things they missed or can't remember or just want to cling on to. One post is entitled 'How to cope' which is the stereotype of this generation that they are getting old (sorry if I offend). This implies to me that creating campaigns that recapture those glory days would be successful.
